Performing Arts
We offer a dynamic range of activities and performance opportunities for students.
Drama
In conjunction with our curricular opportunities, co-curricular activities in drama have supported students in their career pathways. We have Old Boys who have studied and are currently studying at NIDA, VCA, WAAPA, Federation University and GRIFFITH in pursuit of their acting or teaching dreams. A number of past students can be seen performing in professional shows across the nation and on tour internationally as well as on prime time TV.
House Drama – Middle and Senior School competitions
Students select, set, direct and perform their 10 minute plays for an audience. The night is adjudicated by a guest artist who decides on the winning House performance.
Major productions
Opportunities exist to be a part of the major May production and the final October show. The May production is about fun family entertainment. Our shows have been extremely popular and often sold out by the second performance. Genres have included pantomime, melodrama, westerns, musical comedy, etc. The October production is often about more serious dramatic content to showcase the range of talent in the senior years.
Past performances include Legend, Robinson Crusoe, Wild Oates, End of the Food Chain, and Three in the Back, Two in the Head.
Eisteddfods
All drama students can participate in the City of Hobart Eisteddfod. We assist with solo selection and preparation as well as group drama for the competition.
